Dane Smith is the owner of Hearthside Financial Partners and Executive Director of Financial Planning. He began his career as a Financial Advisor in 1984 with John Hancock Financial Services after graduating from Central Michigan University with a degree in Education.

Dane’s teaching background taught him valuable communication and collaboration skills and continues to shape the way he works with clients today. He believes financial planning should feel approachable, not overwhelming, and he takes pride in educating clients on complex financial topics so they can make informed decisions with confidence.

Over the course of his career, Dane has built long-standing relationships with individuals, families, and business owners through steady guidance, thoughtful planning, and a deep commitment to doing what is right for the people he serves. As a business owner himself, he understands the responsibility, complexity, and personal nature of building and protecting something meaningful.

Dane holds the Chartered Life Underwriter®, Chartered Financial Consultant®, and Retirement Income Certified Professional® designations. He is also a 2014 inductee into the Signator Investors, Inc. Hall of Fame.*

Dane currently resides in Highland, Michigan with his wife, Rita. They have three adult daughters – Lauren, Lindsay, and Allison. Dane is an avid outdoorsman and enjoys boating, fishing, and hunting, traveling with his family, and all things Detroit Sports.
